“Hey hey!
So my names Ben Nabea Davis or mad dog, I’m currently a part-time footballer and part-time artist. I never had a strong connection to my culture growing up and the beautiful thing about art is that it created this pathway to learning more about my history and what makes me me. I’m a proud Torres-Strait Islander from Saibai and Thursday Island who grew up in Maroubra, Sydney.
As a Torres Strait artist, I feel privileged to be able to share my culture through digital art as there aren’t many digital Torres Strait artists out there. Its style differs from Aboriginal art and I’m very lucky that I get to share that with the world. To see Aboriginal and Torres Strait art together is something that drives me to continue developing my art.
My passions include surfing, playing guitar and sketching in my sketchbook! I love people and I love to laugh. I think the last main thing about me that I’d like to share is how I feel about First Nations art. It’s the most beautiful storyteller in the world. No matter what walk of life you’re from or who you are, art has this way of connecting us with each other and grounding us through emotion and truth.”
